They don't break your authenticator, they go around it with a man in the middle attack or something like that. They can bypass the authenticator, and once they stop hacking all the nubcakes that lolauthenticatoridon'tneedit, they will start trying the bypass route.
Then again, they might not bother trying to hack all 3 of you appleusing wow subscribers.

Man in the middle is VERY complicated. I really doubt any hacker would go to the trouble.
Here is how it works, they install a Fake wow sign in screen so that when you start WOW it circumvents the game screen and goes to the hackers version. When you put in your Authenticator it goes to the hacker instead of blizzard.
Now the hacker has less than 30 seconds to use that code to get into your account. They cannot change your password, they cannot lock you out.
However, they buy time in your account because their fake sign in screen will just keep saying unable to connect so you think you have a problem with Blizzard. If you get wise and try it from another computer you will kick the hacker off, and end the threat.
So even if they do get in your account, they have a very limited time to do anything. Not worth the effort when there are so many more accounts without Authenticators to plunder.
Plus here is the best part...IT ONLY WORKS ON PCS!

I think you didn't read my post for comprehension. I said that the man in the middle attack isn't worth it now with all the lolidontuseauthenticatorbecauseonlynoobsuseit available people for hacking, but blizzard is going to force people into using it.
They just made posting on the forums a mandatory authenticator requirement, so requiring people to use it to play is coming if not when Cataclysm ships. I wouldn't be surprised if they include one in the package.
Once you take away all the easy accounts, the gold spammers will have to adapt or die unless by some act of God people stop buying gold. I really don't see why people do it now, but until people stop feeding these guys money for leveling, gold, and arena stats, they will keep hacking or botting.
I just got another e-mail saying that I've requested a faction change on my account, and that it'll be done in a couple days, etc.
Out of curiosity, I decided to see if I could log into the old account, which I haven't used since I quit some three or four years ago, and lo and behold, the password has been changed and I no longer have access.
I'm not concerned about my personal data or any sort of credit card theft, as I only used game time cards, but I'm still a tad irked that my account got hacked several years after I canceled.
No, I never bought or sold gold. No, I never used a power-leveling service. And the computer that I did use to play WoW is long since reformatted and replaced.
Good job, Blizzard! Your account security officially blows!
